Hear it from a school

A few minutes with a school already using it.

What made them start, what changed for their staff and students, and what they would tell a school considering a trial.

Claudia Bou-Melhem
“The best part of it is it's so quick. It doesn't take away time from teaching. But the value it adds, for something so small, about just knowing how my students are in real time as well as longitudinally, has been invaluable for us.”
Claudia Bou-MelhemDirector of Wellbeing and Engagement, Maronite College of the Holy Family

What schools use it for

Different schools start for different reasons.

Life Skills GO is an early identification, engagement, learning and school improvement platform. Wellbeing is one of the indicators it uses to give schools real-time visibility of what may be preventing students from attending, participating, belonging and learning. Schools usually start with one of these four goals, and end up using all of them.

Measure and track wellbeing

Set a baseline, watch it move week by week, and report on wellbeing with consistent data rather than a point-in-time survey once a year.

Identify students earlier

Surface the students who are quietly disengaging, including the ones who are not yet appearing in any other report or referral.

Understand attendance and behaviour

See what may sit behind an absence or an incident by bringing student voice together with the attendance and behaviour data you already hold.

Evidence for planning and funding

Show whether your wellbeing initiatives are making a difference, and build the case for where staffing, programs and funding should go next.

Why schools trial it

Most schools are working from a picture that is incomplete, out of date, or both.

Attendance sits in one report. Behaviour sits in another. Wellbeing is measured once or twice a year, if at all. What a teacher noticed in class on Tuesday is often not recorded anywhere. By the time those signals line up, the moment to step in early has usually passed.

Wellbeing gets measured once or twice a year

An annual survey tells you what was true in March, not what is true this week. There is no baseline you can check against and no way to see a change while there is still time to respond.

The quiet ones slip through

You ask how their day was and get a shrug. It is rarely the loud behaviours you are missing, it is the students who drift along drawing no attention at all, until something surfaces much further down the track.

Staff want to help, but they cannot be everywhere

In a busy classroom, a teacher cannot also track who seemed a bit off today. Noticing it is manual, and if nobody follows it up, it gets missed.

It is hard to show whether anything is working

You invest in programs, staffing and initiatives, but without consistent measurement it is difficult to demonstrate what changed, report it to your community, or justify the next round of funding.

How it works

Built into what already happens, not added on top of it.

The platform automatically surfaces the right information to the right person at the right time, without adding to school-based staff workload.

1. Listen

Students complete a brief, age-appropriate check-in, daily, weekly or monthly, showing how they are feeling and how ready they are to learn.

2. Identify

Patterns across belonging, engagement, wellbeing and attendance surface automatically, often before they show up anywhere else.

3. Respond

Teachers, wellbeing teams and leaders each get the information relevant to their role, with 400+ curriculum-aligned lessons and clear referral pathways.

4. Track

Measure whether the support being provided is making a difference, at student, class, cohort and whole-school level.

Proof

What it looks like when a school sticks with it.

Guildford West Public School in southwest Sydney has around 370 students from Kindergarten to Year 6, roughly 80% from a language background other than English, with four multi-categorical support classes alongside mainstream classrooms. They started as a co-design partner in 2018.

“It is a really easy way to have solid evidence to back up what we are saying, backing up our observations. And sometimes it is actually contrary to what our observations are, and I think that is really powerful.”
“It's quick, and the way our teachers are using it, they actually come to me and want to unpack the data. I think that is powerful.”

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is Life Skills GO simply a wellbeing platform?

No. Wellbeing is one of the indicators Life Skills GO uses to help schools understand what may be affecting attendance, behaviour, engagement, belonging and learning. Life Skills GO is an early identification, engagement, learning and school improvement platform.

Does the platform predict student behaviour?

No. Life Skills GO does not claim to predict behaviour or make automated decisions about students. It surfaces and visualises relevant information so educators can identify changes, explore patterns and apply their own professional judgement.

Does it replace teacher or wellbeing-team judgement?

No. The purpose is to add evidence to professional judgement, not replace it. Educators retain responsibility for understanding context and deciding what action is appropriate.

Will this create additional administration?

Life Skills GO is designed to reduce manual investigation, duplicated reporting and the need to search across disconnected information. Life Skills GO does the surfacing of all the data, the insights and the reports, so your staff do not have to be data analysts to see the full picture of what is happening.

Can different staff see different information?

Yes. Information is structured so the people in different roles receive the insight relevant to their responsibilities. A classroom teacher, wellbeing lead, learning support teacher and principal do not need the same view.

Can it support whole-school improvement?

Yes. In addition to individual and classroom insight, Life Skills GO can support cohort and whole-school reporting, trend identification, planning and the measurement of change over time, as well as offering evidence-based, curriculum-aligned, trauma-informed resources.

Is Life Skills GO Australian-built?

Yes. Life Skills GO is Australian-built and has been developed over nine years in partnership and co-design with more than 1,000 schools.
